Cookie Policy

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage (data a site keeps in your browser) and requests that send information from your browser to a server. A cookie set by acompli.ie is a first-party cookie; one set by another domain, such as a provider’s, is a third-party cookie. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab; persistent cookies last until they expire or you delete them.

In Ireland, storing or reading information on your device is governed by Regulation 5 of the ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336 of 2011), and in the UK by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. Both require your consent unless the storage is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for. Where the information is personal data, the GDPR (and in the UK, the UK GDPR) also applies.

2. How we ask for your consent

When you first visit, a notice explains what we would like to use and why. It offers Reject all and Accept all side by side, styled the same, and Manage choices to decide category by category. Nothing optional is switched on in advance, and nothing optional loads until you choose it. Continuing to browse, scrolling or closing a page is never treated as consent.

Your choice (the categories you allowed, the date, and the version of this policy) is stored on your device in the acompli_cookie_preferences cookie and matching local storage, so we can respect it on every page. We ask again after six months, in line with the Data Protection Commission’s guidance, and sooner if we add a provider or a purpose.

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time from Cookie settings at the foot of every page, or with the button below. When you withdraw consent we delete the analytics cookies stored on acompli.ie and reload the page so that no analytics tool keeps running. Cookies that a provider sets on its own domain (for example clarity.ms) can only be removed from your browser settings; section 7 explains how.

3. Strictly necessary

Needed to run the site and the services you ask for: remembering your cookie choice, signing you in, and keeping a chat or search going while you use it. These cannot be switched off, and none of them is used for analytics or advertising.

Legal basis: these items are exempt from consent under Regulation 5(5) of the ePrivacy Regulations because they are strictly necessary for a service you have requested. Where they involve personal data (for example when you sign in), we rely on the performance of our contract with you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) or our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Article 6(1)(f)).

4. Analytics

Helps us understand how the site is used (which pages are read, how visitors move between them and where the site is hard to use) so we can improve it. Off unless you switch it on.

Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses, and we have switched off Google signals and advertising personalisation, so analytics data is not used for advertising. We use analytics reports in aggregate to improve the site; we do not use them to identify you.

Legal basis: your consent (Regulation 5(3) of the ePrivacy Regulations and GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.

5. Marketing

We do not use advertising, marketing or social-media tracking cookies, and none load on this website. If we ever introduce one, we will list it here before it is switched on and ask for your consent separately.

6. Providers and international transfers

The analytics providers above process data on our behalf, or as independent controllers for their own services as described in their privacy information. Google Ireland Limited and Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited are established in Ireland. Where a provider or its affiliates process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, transfers rely on an adequacy decision (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, where the provider is certified) or on Standard Contractual Clauses. 7. Changing your choice and clearing cookies

On this site: select Cookie settings at the foot of any page, or use the button below, to see what is switched on and change it.

In your browser: every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies, including cookies set on other domains, from its privacy or site-data settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop features such as signing in from working.

Google Analytics: Google also offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every website.

8. Your rights

Where cookies involve your personal data, you can ask us for access to it, ask us to erase it, withdraw your consent at any time, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email privacy@acompli.ie. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland or, in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.

9. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when we change the cookies or providers we use; the date at the top shows the latest version. If we add a provider or a purpose that needs consent, we ask for your choice again before it is used.
