The EDPB and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) have adopted Joint Opinion 2/2026 on the European Commission's proposal to simplify the EU digital legislative framework (the 'Digital Omnibus').

The Joint Opinion supports simplification in principle but stresses that changes must not weaken fundamental rights protections or undermine legal certainty, particularly where amendments touch the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.

The regulators emphasise the importance of consistency and caution against amendments that could fragment obligations or reduce practical safeguards.

Acompli perspective: Cross-regulatory change increases the value of coherent evidence. If GDPR, tracking, cybersecurity and AI governance live in separate silos, you will struggle when regulators assess controls end-to-end. Ensure your data protection safeguards and regulatory guidance interpretation keep pace with evolving expectations.
